The only thing I would change about the ending is that Erik doesn't die. I don't like the other ending very much because Erik understands that Christine wants to be with Raoul and lets her go so she can be happy so it doesn't seem fair that he dies. Instead of dying he could have found another love or refocused on his career as an architect or helping out at the opera.
